WHAT'S THE SCOOP?
*** Please join us this Thursday, September 15, for Parent Information Night. There are 2 sessions to choose from: 5:30 or 6:30. Come learn more about our curriculum, goal binders, and how our day works. We hope to see you there!
*** Last week, students took our new district assessment, NWEA. There is a test for ELA and a test for Math. They will be taken three times throughout the year. This replaces all previous assessments as a more comprehensive and specific way for schools to know where students are and where to take them next. I can't wait to use the data to guide instruction.
***
Students will receive their homework calendars
this week inside the "homework" tab in their goal binders.
Directions are on the back of the calendar. Homework is done on a weekly goal basis. On Mondays, I will check for the previous week's completion (next week will start the first week of working on homework). Their goal is to read 50 minutes, practice math 2 days, and spelling/sight words 2 days. These can be any days that fit into your schedule. It can look many different ways. I will not be sending home paper/pencil pages. They can choose from goal binder pages, online games, flashcards, or any other way to practice (ideas will be on the back). When they make their weekly homework goal, they will get a punch on their homework card. After 5 punches, they get a free pick from school store! Although students will not lose anything if they don't complete their homework, it is a vital component to home. Not only does it give parents a window into their skills, it shows the importance of taking learning out of the classroom into daily life. I hope to see all students working at home! Please let me know if you need any clarification.
*** As you've noticed, we are doing Friday Fact days for math fact fluency. Ultimately, the goal is for students to be able to solve mixed problems, addition and subtraction, within 3-5 seconds, or 12 or more per minute. This is always a great area to practice and strengthen your child's automaticity!
