GIVE YOUR OPINION!

In Charlotte's Web, Fern's father, Mr. Arable, wanted to kill Wilbur just because he was the tiny runt of the litter.
"It's very small and weak, and it will never amount to anything. So I have decided to do away with it."
Fern think's it is not right to kill the piglet just because he is small.

"It's unfair. This is the most terrible case of injustice..."

Some of the arguments we heard:
Supporting Fern:
  • No animal should be killed just because of its size.
  • It's not Wilbur's fault he's small.
  • Would you do the same to me if I was small?
  • He wouldn't eat much.
  • He could still grow to be normal size.
  • We should take care of all animals.
Supporting Mr. Arable:
  • Our farm is our business and we need to make money.
  • He is too small and won't make us much money.
  • He will get picked on by the others.
  • He's going to be killed at some point, it might as well be now.
  • He's just a pig.
  • That's part of farm life.

Character Tweets

In order to get into the character's point of view, we imagined what it may look like if the characters had a Twitter account. Here are our clever Charlotte's Web tweets!
