We love to connect with others around the country and world! We use Skype to video chat with others to Mystery Skype (using geographical skills to guess their location), Mystery Number Chat (using place value skills to guess their mystery number), and to attend amazing lessons and opportunities otherwise impossible! Skype takes away the walls of our classroom. If you'd like to connect with us, send us a Tweet @MsMasonRE or @MsMason2nd.

Description
Today was our very first Mystery Skype! We played Mystery Number. It was really fun to meet a new class. They guessed our number right after we guessed theirs. We practiced greeting, listening, and using good manners. They gave us a big compliment on how well we did. We did not find out where they live because we are going to call them a different time to guess their location. Today we met 2nd graders from Wichita! We learned that they also like the Royals! They have 320 students in their school, which is less than ours. They have iPads for students like we have Chromebooks! We have more students in our class, they only have 17. We had a lot of fun! We played Mystery Number Skype with 3rd Graders in Michigan! Their state is shaped like a mitten and borders Canada! They are north of us. They have 400 students in their school but they have 31 students in their class! That's 10 more than ours! It was nice to meet them. Today we met 4th graders from Iowa. They live really close to Omaha! Lots of us have been to Omaha. It was the first time we played mystery location with our maps. It was so exciting! Their school is much smaller than ours. Their state borders the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers, just like our state! We like our new friends! Today we called a class to play mystery number. It was the first time we started our independent jobs. We had 2 Tweeters, an opener, closer, note-taker, map marker, question askers, and question answerers. We also had another class join us. We didn't learn where they lived because we are going to call them another day to guess their state. We can't wait! We met 5th graders from Grove City, OH. That is near Columbus. There are 650 students in their school. It is grades 5-6. They also practice tornado drills and fire drills! We do the same thing. Their mascot are the Timberwolves. Someday we hope to be just as good at Mystery Skype as they were! Today we called 4th graders from Edison, NJ. They are 1 hour ahead of us in the Eastern Time Zone. Their mascot are the Tigers, JUST LIKE US! However, their colors are blue and white. Their state borders the Atlantic Ocean. They are only 45 minutes away from the Statue of Liberty in New York! Some classes get to go there on field trips. Very cool! We met 4th graders who live near Atlanta. They are in the eastern time zone and are 1 hour ahead of us. They practice fire drills and tornado drills like we do. They have 25 students in their class. We played mystery number with a class in Iowa today. It was our first time doing numbers to 1000! They had to go to specials so we didn't get a chance to learn more about where they live, but we made new friends! Today we met a class near Dallas, TX. They are in the same time zone as we are. Their school is Kindergarten to 5th grade, which is different than ours. We learned they have tornadoes like we do. We have a lot in common! We met 3rd graders in Denver, CO. That's the capital city. Their neighborhood is a suburb. Their class has fewer students than ours. They are one hour behind us. They were so nice! Today we met 4th graders in Hollis, NH. That's near Boston. They are 1 hour ahead of us, in the eastern time zone. Their mascot is a hawk. There are 18 students in their class. Their school is Preschool-3rd. They were so nice and did a great job! |
